Atlas: Province
Provinces are areas with boundaries that clearly distinguish them from other provinces, and their own culture or set of cultures leading to a shared identity within those boundaries and observed by those outside of them; generally they have their own government(s), though the autonomy of a province and those within it may potentially be affected by being part of a commonwealth. While usually related to provincial boundaries in some way, cultures can also transcend provincial boundaries, potentially significantly affecting identity for more than just one province.
Sometimes provinces are disputed as provinces, with different parties claiming them and sometimes one claiming it as an independent unique province and another claiming it as a canton or region. It can be unclear or volatile who is in charge of the area.
