Lynguistykon: Bases
From The Somewhere Else Encyclopedia
A base is the morpheme(s) comprising the main portion of a word, often combined with one or more affixes to create a word with altered or deeper meaning. Some morphemes may serve as a base morpheme in some words and as an affix morpheme in others. Although all morphemes and therefore all bases carry identifiable meaning, depending on the language not all of them are used as standalone words due to linguistic conventions or because they require pairing to transfer sufficient meaning.
