Affixes are morphemes appended at the beginning, middle, and/or end of a word (i.e. attached to the other morpheme(s) comprising it) to alter or deepen its meaning. Often, words are formed by combining base morphemes (bases) with affix morphemes (affixes) to easily communicate meaning; some morphemes can serve either as a base or affix. Also in certain languages/cases, the same affix morpheme(s) can be applied either at the beginning (as a prefix morpheme) or end (as a suffix morpheme) of a word interchangeably.
