The New World refers to the areas of Karamay south and east of the continents of Vellum and Ghili. The Ruktruun, who are widely held to be the oldest form of People after the Original Folk, reside primarily in an isolated part of the continent of Vellum, and Ghili is not far off from it, thus when the Pahqruun sailed on the river flowing from Mount Taurikip, they named the lands much further away and only reached via sea voyages as "The New World".
