Affixes are morphemes appended at the beginning, middle, and/or end of a word (i.e. attached to the other morpheme(s) comprising it) to alter or deepen its meaning. Often, words are formed by combining affixes (affix morphemes) with bases (base morphemes) to easily communicate meaning. In certain languages/cases, the same affix morpheme can be applied at the beginning (as a prefix) or end (as a suffix) of a word interchangeably.
