Affixes are morphemes appended at the beginning, middle, and/or end of a word (i.e. attached to the other morpheme(s) comprising it) to alter or deepen its meaning. Often, words are formed by combining affixes (affix morphemes) with bases (base morphemes) to easily communicate meaning. In certain languages/cases, the same affix morpheme can be applied at the beginning (as a prefix) or end (as a suffix) of a word interchangeably.
Prefixes
Prefixes are affixes that attach at the beginning of a word.
Infixes
Infixes are affixes that attach in the inner contents of a word. Transfixes are a specific type of affix broken into more than one portion with each one going in a different segment of the word.
Suffixes
Suffixes are affixes that attach at the end of a word.
Circumfixes
Circumfixes are affixes involving an addition at both the beginning and end of a word.
